Grouse season is promising!
Last year seemed to be a pretty good year for grouse in Wisconsin. At least most people I've talked to said they had seen quite a few birds. Can't say they shot their share, but I'm supposing they did. I know I didn't get the time to hunt grouse too much, but I do remember having a nice
meal or two.
2009 looks like it is going to be a good year as well. Right about now I start to get a little itchy for getting some bird on the table. So, I'll be throwing the gun in the truck, just in-case I can take the back road home from work and stop by a favorite walking trail to scare up a few. I always look forward to that first grouse that scares the heck out of me when it takes flight. It's always when I least expect it. But, I still manage to get a few shots off, even if its just to get
the cobwebs out.
I haven't had a dog to hunt with for about 7 years now, I think. But, this time of year makes
me wish I had old Payne again. Even if he tried to get them on his own once-and-a-while.
It was sure fun training him and watching him work. Hopefully, I'll get another hunting dog in the near future.
The leaves should be falling a little more over this next week, so hunting will seem a little
more productive shortly. Up until now it's been too thick to get good shots off, so most of the
time you're just knocking down the brush and educating the birds.
I never made it to the deer stand last weekend. Got the bow to the shop to have it looked over, but haven't shot it yet.
Maybe this weekend will be the time for me. I'm going to make an effort to get out and hunt something.
Ducks? Grouse? Whitetail? I'm not going to be picky, I'm going. Sometimes you just have
to make the time or you won't go.
Hunting is therapy. Get out and get some stress relief. Get out and enjoy this great country.
Get out and enjoy your great state. Where-ever you're from, enjoy it. Take the time to notice all the miracles going on around you.
Until next time.
Be safe

I have been seeing plenty of grouse this year. I have 4 grouse and haven't even been out hunting with my dog, yet. Seems most people are getting them though.
